Oulton Broad SEND block
In July 2023, SEH French completed work to increase the number of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) school places in Oulton Broad.
The team worked alongside Concertus Design and Property Consultants on behalf of Suffolk County Council.
It included the construction of a new standalone classroom block at Oulton Broad Primary School. As a result, 12 SEND school places have been created for children between reception and Year 2.
Consisting of a large activity space, breakout area, group room and accessible toilets, the new block provides a modern fit-for-purpose space for the children’s education. Also, the classroom block includes a sensory space to support pupils.
The block was built with masonry construction and a flat felt roof, therefore matching the aesthetics of the existing building. Aluminium windows and doors have been fitted throughout, providing a stronger alternative to plastic with better insulation qualities.
In addition to the block, a new car park fitted with electrical vehicle chargers has been provided across the road.
Simon Hubert, Contracts Manager at SEH French, said: “It was a pleasure for the team to deliver this important project. Increasing SEND school places in the area will undoubtedly benefit local children and their families.
“The space we have built was designed perfectly for its purpose by Concertus, and we would like to thank them for their support throughout.
“We would also like to share our appreciation for both the staff and pupils at Oulton Broad Primary School. Everyone was extremely accommodating and helpful to our team, it was a thoroughly enjoyable project all-round.”
SEH French has completed numerous projects benefiting the education sector. From SEND school places at Copleston and Stowupland to building a brand-new construction facility at Chelmsford College and more.
