Charlie praises SEH French apprenticeship after crossing halfway point

Director and employee news

Trainee Quantity Surveyor Charlie Coe said his apprenticeship is the ‘perfect grounding’ for his career.

Charlie, 23, has been a familiar face in the SEH French team for the last two years – having just crossed the halfway point in his five-year apprenticeship with us.

His day-to-day work sees him support Senior Surveyor Chris Fleet on major SEH projects, while he has also started taking the lead on our smaller work.

Speaking as part of Learning at Work Week, he said: “The apprenticeship is great – I’ve really enjoyed my work here so far.

“Everyone is really supportive, which makes for a nice atmosphere to work in.

“It’s such a varied apprenticeship – some days I’m in the office, others I’m out on site. And it’s great to have the trust of my managers in taking a lead on my work.”

Much of his work so far has focused on the estimations side of the business, while he has also spent time learning about site safety and industry law.

Upon finishing his apprenticeship, Charlie will gain a bachelor’s degree from Anglia Ruskin University.

He added: “It will be great to be fully qualified. I sort of just fell into quantity surveying to be honest – but it has proven to be the perfect fit.

“I was always good with maths at school and enjoy number crunching, which is an integral part of the job.

“My work with SEH French is really helping advance my studies. You take everything you learn on-site and in the office and use it to your advantage in your lectures and seminars.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my apprenticeship and seeing what else it has in store for me.”

Chris added: “Charlie continues to go strength to strength – we’re really pleased to have him in the team.

“It is great seeing him develop and we’re all confident he has a very bright future ahead of him in the industry.”
