National award win for surgery extension project

We are delighted to have won a national award for our work revamping and extending St Mary’s Surgery in Ely.
SEH French scooped the best Non-residential Extension, Alteration or Conversion Award at this year’s Local Authority Building Control (LABC) grand finals on January 24.
Contracted by East Cambridgeshire District Council, the project saw the surgery extended to more than 25 consulting rooms, with additional meeting rooms, offices and staff facilities.
Our Director Simon Girling said: “This was a brilliant project to be a part of and required close working relationships with the council, Gary John Architects and our subcontractors.
“It’s a joy to be able to provide such amazing facilities to the people in the area, with the larger site capable of treating many more patients as the population continues to grow.
“We would like to thank the team at St Mary’s Surgery for being so accommodating to us during the staged reopening of the surgery.”
The project required our team to demolish the rear section of the existing building, before constructing a three storey extension while retaining the front facade.
The building makes brilliant use of natural light, with a large atrium lightwell in the waiting area creating a bright and welcoming space.
Opened in three stages to avoid disruption to patients, the state-of-the-art surgery now gives residents the chance to pick up medication from the surgery thanks to the in-house dispensary.
Simon added: “We are very proud of our work on this project and to win this national award is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.
“We are so pleased with how the project went and wish the staff of the surgery all the best as they use their new facilities.”
