Construction begins on new flats in Ipswich 

SEH French has begun construction on 30 affordable flats in Ipswich, near the waterfront.   

The beginning of works was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony on March 7 on the site of the former Hope Church on Fore Hamlet.  

The development is being led by Handford Homes, the housing development arm of Ipswich Borough Council, with our team leading on construction.  

Soon to be known as The Orwell Centre, the 30 flats will be located within a four-storey structure with shared gardens and onsite parking.  

Located just a short walk from the Ipswich Waterfront, residents will have access to a range of amenities as well as being close to the town centre.  

Machinery from Holmes Plant & Construction is currently being used for excavation to prepare the site for foundation works.  

Companies including Floorspan Contracts, G M Piling Ltd and SDM Fabrication Ltd will also support the various stages of the development.

“This project aligns with Ipswich Borough Council’s vision of furnishing the community with energy-efficient, high-quality housing.” 

Works on the new affordable properties are due to be completed in October 2025.
