St Mary’s Surgery
In June 2023, SEH French completed extensive works to extend St Mary’s Surgery in Ely.
The extension of the surgery provides much needed benefits to the area, which has experienced continued population growth. Therefore, the larger site will be able to accommodate the healthcare needs of more residents.
The extension has been designed perfectly by Gary Johns Architects to match the surroundings and existing building of St Mary’s Surgery. Construction works were carried out by SEH French with the appreciated support of our sub-contractors.
Initial stages of the project involved the demolition of the rear section of the existing building, while retaining the existing front façade. Following demolition works, we constructed a three-story frame using structural insulated panels (SIPs) to the back of the building.
Cladding included a combination of Cedral Click, Wienerberger Colormat Classic and Zinc Flatlock panels. Meanwhile, the brickwork complements the design of the existing building.
In order to maximise natural light, waiting areas were fitted with an atrium lightwell, providing a bright and welcoming space. St Mary’s Surgery is now home to more than 25 consulting rooms, several meeting rooms and offices, and staff facilities. The building is fitted with three stairwells, two lifts, and accessible toilets on each storey. Residents can also pick up medication from the surgery thanks to the in-house dispensary.
St Mary’s Surgery was reopened to the public in three stages to ensure residents could benefits from services as they were ready.
We would like to thank Gary Johns Architects and our sub-contractors for their support on this project. Additionally, we would like to thank the team at St Mary’s Surgery for being so accommodating to us as we continued to work on the project during the staged reopening.
