Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge
Fitzwilliam began in 1869 as a non-collegiate institution, providing Cambridge education to undergraduates who were unable to afford membership of a college. It moved to its current site in 1963 and is now one of the larger colleges of the University being home to some 750 students.
Having negotiated three separate phases of work, worth over £800,000, the team at SEH French were responsible for building a two storey extension to the main hall building and refitting the old library on the first floor to create a new multi-functional Upper Hall with a lift from the main kitchens to a new servery to allow it to be used for dining events. The ne w hall is expected to be used regularly by the students, as well as being hired for functions and events.
Andrew Powell, the Fitzwilliam College bursar, commented: “We were delighted with our working relationship with SEH French. The work was undertaken during the busiest part of the academic year, but with minimal disruption and the construction team worked extremely co-operatively with all departments affected. The end result is a very exciting new facility for the College, delivered to a high standard, on time and on budget. I would be very happy to use SEH French again for future projects and would not hesitate to recommend them.”
Mediterranean Shipping Company, Ipswich
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) are one of the world’s largest shipping companies with over 40,000 staff in 475 offices in 165 countries.
We were tasked with creating a £4.8 million headquarters for MSC, located in Ipswich, Suffolk. The structure consisted of a three-storey office building; one that was striking and individual, and would be able to cope with the client’s ever-changing business needs.
Upon completion, the build was the first in Ipswich to comply with the East of England Plan’s 10% Renewable Energy Policy, through the installation of a 20kW Gazelle wind turbine.
In summer 2015, we completed our work at Framlingham College.
Worth £1.8 million, our work entailed the construction of a new, two-storey Sixth Form facility over a 48-week period, and it’s safe to say the client was delighted with the results.
Framlingham College is a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 13-18. Visit http://www.framcollege.co.uk/Framlingham-Home to find out more.
